- Be totally honest with yourself and others.
- Stop overdrawing your checking account.
- Throw away your credit cards.
- Pay your creditors on time.
- Create a payment plan for every person from whom you have borrowed money and pay them back.
- Be totally committed to getting out of debt and do whatever it takes to make it happen.
- Develop a monthly spending plan and stick to it.
- Once you get your debt under control, begin putting 10% of your income away for your future and be committed to not touch it.
- Understand and accept that if you cannot pay cash for it, you do not need it.
- Examine how you are spending your money. Most Americans only need about 10% of what they purchase. All you really need is a roof over your head, food on the table and a source of transportation. Everything else is superfluous.
